10th International ESMRN Congress
September 3 – 5, 2009, Zurich, Switzerland
Dear Colleagues, dear friends,
It was a great event, the 10th International Congress of the European Society of Magnetic Resonance in Neuropediatrics (ESMRN) held in Zürich, Switzerland, in September 2009. 230 participants from all over Europe, Eastern Europe, Middle East, Russia, Australia, New Zeeland, Japan, United States, Canada and South America attended the meeting.
Here we want to express our great thanks to the Scientific Committee:
Jim Barkovich (San Francisco), Charles Raybaud (Toronto), Peter Klaver
(Zürich), Kerstin Bucher (Zürich), Daniel Brandeis (Zürich), Daniel Jeanmonod
(Zürich), Jürgen Hennig (Freiburg i. Br.) and Ernst Martin (Zürich), and
to the Organizing Committee: Beat Werner, Ursula Staubli, Ianina Scheer,
Ernst Martin and the Official Congress Organizer IMK, Basel, for their
immense effort and help to make ESMRN 09 a success. We also want to thank
the sponsors: GE Healthcare, Lammers Medical Technology, Swiss International
Air Lines, and the City and the State of Zurich, and exhibitors: Lammers
Medical Technology, Brain Products and NordicNeuroLab. It deserves also
a big THANK YOU to the lecturers, to the participants and, last but not
least, to the catering, the musicians and the florist.
As stated in the overall concept (www.ESMRN.com) ESMRN is a scientific meeting place for people interested in human brain development and in brain functions of children and adolescents. It brings together neuroscientists, pediatric neurologists, scientists interested in developmental pediatrics, neonatologists, neuroradiologists, neuropsychologists, neurophysiologists and physicists. Newest developments in advanced neuroimaging in the fields of normal and pathological brain development and brain functions will be presented by internationally recognized experts. ESMRN covers not only magnetic resonance technologies, but also other neuroimaging modalities, such as ultrasound, electro-encephalogram (EEG), positron emission tomography (PET) and magneto-encephalography (MEG).
The ESMRN 2009 comprised six scientific sessions given by outstanding and internationally recognized experts on:
- Neuroimaging of Acquired Brain Injury
- Recent Advances in Developmetal Brain Anomalies & Epilepsy
- Advanced Imaging of Cognitive Brain Functions
- Network Concepts in Epilepsy I and II
and two parallel poster sessions.
The echo from the audience was generally outstanding. There were, however, also some critical voices. While some did like the concept of comprehensive, state of the art scientific lectures, some missed oral presentations by young investigators. We will consider this in future meetings and incorporate more young scientists.
The next ESMRN-Congress will take place in Amsterdam in 2011. We are looking forward to this great meeting and hope to meet all of you again there.
Best regards,
Ernst Martin, Past-President of ESMRN
